Hagerstown Looks Anew At Downtown Redevelopment
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The city of Hagerstown is taking a fresh look at downtown redevelopment.
The agenda for Tuesday's City Council meeting includes a presentation from Towson-based Sora Development. The company is a partner in a public-private revitalization effort in Glassboro, N.J.
In a separate development, officials say a prospective buyer has emerged for a city-owned building on the downtown Public Square. The city had been working to create commercial office space there.
The council appears to be shifting its focus away from a downtown, minor-league baseball stadium proposed by former mayor Robert Bruchey. Citizen opposition to that concept led to Bruchey's defeat in November by David Gysberts.
The agenda also includes a discussion of planned improvements to 82-year-old Municipal Stadium, home of the minor-league Hagerstown Suns.
