Hagerstown Council Extends Stadium Pact With Suns
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Hagerstown City Council has informally agreed to extend the agreement allowing the Hagerstown Suns to play at Municipal Stadium.
City Engineer Rodney Tissue presented a copy of the proposed lease extension to the council on Tuesday. The four council members attending gave their informal approval; final approval must be granted on Nov. 20 before the deal goes into effect.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that the agreement would allow the Suns, a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, to play at Municipal Stadium for two more seasons. Under the current agreement, the Suns pay $1 per year to play at the 82-year-old ballpark and the city is responsible for maintenance and utility costs.
Hagerstown and Washington County are working toward a proposed new stadium.
