Hagerstown Airport Logs 10K Boardings In 2012
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- After tallying more than 10,000 paid commercial air service passenger boardings last year, Hagerstown Regional Airport has secured a $1 million entitlement through the Federal Aviation Administration.
Airport Director Phil Ridenour tells the Herald-Mail that the funds will be spent on infrastructure improvements, general upkeep and safety projects. Ridenour says the airport would have received only $150,000 had it not eclipsed the 10,000-passenger mark.
He says the money could also be used to offset the county's contribution to a new aircraft crash truck.
FAA statistics show 10,207 passenger boardings for Allegiant Air and Sun Air flights in the 2012 calendar year. That's up from a total of 5,618 in 2011, when only Cape Air commuter service was offered. The airport also surpassed 10,000 boardings in 2009 and 2010.
