Groundbreaking Set For Textile Museum's New Home

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington's 87-year-old Textile Museum is moving closer to having a new home.

The Washington Post reports a groundbreaking is scheduled for next week for the new George Washington University Museum, which will include the Textile Museum.

The move was announced last year and is scheduled for completion in 2014. Moving from its Dupont Circle historic home to a new facility in Foggy Bottom will give the Textile Museum more exhibition space and access to an art-storage facility at the university's Virginia Science and Technology campus in Ashburn.

Students in art history, anthropology and museum studies will get the chance to work with the museum's collection of 19,000 items.

The Textile Museum will remain open in its current location until late next year.
