Grandson Charged In Death Of Elderly Pikesville Couple; Knife & Dumbbells Identified As Weapons
PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ)— The suspect in the murder of an elderly Baltimore County couple is behind bars in Oklahoma City. Police say their grandson is suspected of killing the couple in their Pikesville home earlier this month.
Matthew Long, 31, is being held in an Oklahoma City detention center. Authorities there have detained him on a Baltimore County warrant, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder.
Baltimore County homicide detectives have interviewed Long, who willingly provided a statement.
Extradition proceedings have not begun.
Baltimore County Police confirm that Oklahoma authorities found Long, unconscious, in a motel room in Weatherford, Okla. Oklahoma authorities found a note in the room saying, "I'm sorry."
The murder weapons were a pair of 20-pound dumbbells and a knife. The knife was not recovered.
The victims -- Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper, both in their 80s -- died of blunt and sharp force trauma.
Police believe they died Sept. 8. The bodies were found in their home in the 800-block Olmstead Road on Sept. 10.
