Grand Jury Refuses To Indict Officer In Fatal Crash

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An Anne Arundel County grand jury has declined to indict a Takoma Park police officer involved in a collision on Route 50 near Annapolis that left three people dead.

The Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's office said Friday that the grand jury has declined to indict Travis Ala on criminal negligence charges.

Investigators have said Ala, who was off duty but in a departmental-registered vehicle, was suspected of causing the March 21 accident.

The Capital Gazette of Annapolis reports that Anne Arundel authorities will cite Ala for reckless driving, negligent driving and other traffic offenses.

Ala also is still facing charges of assault and use of a handgun in a crime of violence in a road rage incident in Prince George's County several months before the Annapolis crash.
