Governor-Elect Hogan Kicks Off His Thank-You Tour On Veterans Day
LEONARDTOWN, Md. (WJZ)--Honoring veterans while thanking voters. Larry Hogan made his first public appearance since last week's surprise victory at the polls. Tuesday, Hogan walked in the Veterans Day parade in Leonardtown.
Pat Warren spoke with the new governor-elect.
A week ago, Larry Hogan was elected governor of Maryland. Tuesday, he said thank you.
Veterans Day and the governor's race brought the governor-elect to Leonardstown. Steny Hoyer greeted Maryland's newly-elected Republican Governor Larry Hogan and he met his new constituents.
Governor-elect Hogan says he deliberately chose Veterans Day to make his first appearance since the election.
"It's going great. We're just happy to be out here in St. Mary's County, the mother county, and we have a great crowd. We're here to thank the veterans for their service and we've got a lot of supporters here who are excited," Hogan said.
"He won St. Mary's County by a landslide," said one supporter.
"There are more veterans here in St. Mary's County than anywhere else in the state," Hogan said. "That's why we started here. We're going to go across the state and thank the people who cared enough about our state to come out and vote for change."
With all the enthusiasm, the business of government is never far from mind.
"We've got two and a half months to put a government together and we're going to work very hard and make sure we get it done right," he said.
A schedule of thank you stops across the state will be released soon.
Hogan's inauguration is scheduled for Jan. 21.
