ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley is swearing in a new transportation secretary.
Jim Smith, the former Baltimore County executive, will be sworn in at a ceremony in Annapolis on Tuesday.
The position had been vacant since Beverley Swaim-Staley resigned a year ago.
The governor also will be swearing in Abby Hopper as the director of the Maryland Energy Administration. Hopper has been O'Malley's energy adviser since 2010. She will continue in that role.
