Gov. Larry Hogan Says He Will Not Vote For Trump
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan says he does not plan to vote for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this November.
Hogan made the decisive statement in Prince George's County Wednesday, while visiting the future site of MGM Resorts International in Oxon Hill.
"No, I don't plan to," Hogan said when asked if he would cast his ballot for Trump, according to The Washington Post. "I guess when I get behind the curtain I'll have to figure it out. Maybe write someone in. I'm not sure."
Hogan's comments came just before Donald Trump continued to address the Orlando shooting and his own party, saying his Republican critics should "just be quiet." Trump continues to call for a ban on most Muslims entering the U.S. before another massacre like Orlando repeats itself.
Johns Hopkins political professor Matthew Crenson says Trump's recent comments are seen "insupportable by many members of his own party, which may have been the tipping point for Hogan.
"He figured out that this question is not going to go away, and that recent developments have made it even more acute, and he figured he had to put it behind him," Crenson said.
Hogan is the 62nd governor of Maryland, and was inaugurated on Jan. 21, 2015. He is only the second Republican governor in Maryland in nearly 50 years.
In the 2014 gubernatorial election, Hogan beat out Democratic nominee Anthony Brown, who served as his predecessor Martin O'Malley's Lieutenant governor.
