Gov. Hogan Declares May & June "Magicada" Months

ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) — Gov. Larry Hogan issued a proclamation Friday issuing May and June as Maryland "magicada" months in celebration of the return of the 17-year cicadas.

The bugs are expected to begin emerging from the ground as early as next week.

The governor wants all Marylanders to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the remarkable, yet harmless bugs. Billions of cicadas could emerge in Maryland and 14 other East Coast states in the coming weeks, but they'll be gone by late June.
