Gov. Hogan: '95 Percent Of My Cancer Is Gone'
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A major positive turn for Governor Larry Hogan in his fight against cancer. Hogan tells The Washington Post 95 percent of his cancer is gone.
Christie Ileto has the news from doctors at UMMC.
The good news comes from a medical scan taken after Governor Hogan's second round of chemotherapy.
Two months ago, Governor Larry Hogan stunned Marylanders with his diagnosis of stage III non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
"And because of the fast growing nature of this thing, we can't waste any time. We can't wait," he said.
Since then, he's been undergoing rounds of aggressive, 24-hour chemotherapy.
Last week, he marked the halfway point in treatment at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore -- and it's working.
Hogan tells The Washington Post: "I aced my test. Ninety-five percent is gone, disappeared, dead. I still have some remnants of the tumors, but it's dead."
Even his doctors were surprised at the dramatic success.
Hogan says: "They were shocked at the results. They were saying, 'We could not possibly have hoped for a better scan than that.'"
Doctors hope the next scan will show the final five percent of the tumors are gone.
If his next scan does come back clear, Hogan will still have to finish the second half of his treatment so the cancer does not return. The next round begins next Friday.
