Gov.-elect Hogan Meets With House Speaker Busch
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Republican Gov.-elect Larry Hogan has met with House Speaker Michael Busch to talk about working together.
Busch, a Democrat, says the two met in the speaker's statehouse office Thursday morning for about an hour and that the meeting was positive.
While the two understand there will be some philosophical differences, Busch says they talked about keeping the lines of communication open.
Busch says they also talked about the challenges lawmakers and the new governor will face in tackling a $593 million budget shortfall in the next fiscal year.
Hogan named Robert Neall to his transition team Wednesday to focus on budget issues. Neall is a former Republican who became a Democrat in 1999. He is a former state senator, delegate and Anne Arundel County executive. Hogan becomes governor in January.
