O'Malley Delays Action On $2.4 Billion Drug Contract
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley is pulling a $2.4 billion prescription drug contract from consideration before a state board, saying a challenge to the deal should be completed first.
The Board of Public Works was scheduled to decide Wednesday whether Express Scripts, Inc. should win a 5-year, $2.4 billion deal to provide prescription drug coverage to state employees. But O'Malley withdrew the contract for consideration Tuesday.
A challenge before the Maryland Board of Contract Appeals, from Catalyst Rx of Rockville, which currently holds the prescription drug contract, should be worked out before the BPW decides whether to approve a new contract, an O'Malley spokesman said.
O'Malley sits on the BPW with Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy Kopp.
