GOP Fund For Hogan Reports Raising $750K
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Republican Party on Friday reported raising about $750,000 for Larry Hogan's gubernatorial bid in the latest reporting period.
Joe Cluster, the executive director of the party, said about $625,000 has been spent. That leaves a balance of about $125,000 for Hogan.
Hogan is using public campaign financing. That means he is limited to spending $2.6 million in state funding. However, the party can spend an additional $1.8 million for Hogan. Cluster said the party reported raising a total of about $780,000 in the period, with a portion used to pay party expenses.
A fundraiser headlined by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie last month helped raise more than $400,000 for Hogan. Christie, who chairs the Republican National Governors Association and is a potential 2016 presidential candidate, also attended a fundraiser for Hogan this week, but that money is not included in the reporting period, which is for Aug. 20 to Oct. 19.
Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, a Democrat who is running against Hogan, has not yet filed his fundraising report, which is due by midnight.
Brown got some fundraising help of his own from former President Bill Clinton last month. The fundraiser in Potomac raised more than $1 million for Brown at the posh home of a wine superstore owner. It was the second fundraiser the former president attended for Brown. Clinton raised more than $1 million for the lieutenant governor in May during the primary.
