Google Misleads Drivers To ICC Being Built In Maryland
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Travelers have found a big glitch in Google's mapping technology that directs drivers through the maze of roads between Baltimore and Washington.
The Baltimore Sun reports Google is directing drivers onto the new Intercounty Connector in the Maryland suburbs. The only problem: The segment that connects to Interstate 95 is still a huge construction zone that may not be finished until 2012.
The first section of the ICC opened this year, but Google shows the entire stretch of road is open. The error also was appearing Friday on a Google service for iPhones and on Yahoo for part of the day. Rival Mapquest had more realistic directions.
A Google spokeswoman says the company is working to fix the problem by early next week. Yahoo apparently made a correction Friday.
