Goodwill Holds Its Annual Thanksgiving Feast
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One of the biggest Thanksgiving meals in the city was served Wednesday.
Pat Warren reports Goodwill Industries continues to live up to its name.
Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake serves up turkey and all the fixings---and the whole city is invited. The line stretched outside the Convention Center where guests waited patiently to share a family moment with a community of thousands, the serving and the served.
For some, it was a grateful way to spend Thanksgiving.
"Happy Thanksgiving to my sister Mia and my mommy and my brother and my children. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody and thank you all," said guest Hope Johnson.
"Gives me a little joy in life doing something for the community," said Annette Lunn.
"I want to say a shout out to my aunt Paula. I love her; my nephew, she loves him, too. My mom. Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas to everybody. This is a great meal. Thank you guys," said guest Larry Cobb.
"I've been doing this for more than 10 years, coming out to help these people get some food and then I can celebrate with my family later," said volunteer Ellen Morechi.
"It just feels like the right thing to do," said volunteer Tola Abu.
In addition to the meal, Goodwill offers long term services to those who need them.
"We have open enrollment every Friday so anybody from the community can come in and we'll get them connected to job training, help them get a job and then maybe they can come back next year as a volunteer," said Lisa Rusyniak, Goodwill Industries.
"I'm thankful for being here and having Thanksgiving dinner with all the people," said James Rogers.
The need is always there so if this inspires you, don't wait for a special occasion.
This is Goodwill's 58th annual Thanksgiving dinner and resource fair. Dinner was also served in Annapolis.
