Glenn Younes: Orioles - Rest Vs. Rust
I thought / wanted the Orioles to come back from the break rested & ready to fire away down the stretch for the final 66 games. Against Texas they did just that, during the 3 game sweep.
While Baltimore outscored Texas 23-9 it was the defense that was the story, on both sides.
The Rangers sucked.
My goodness it should make every Orioles fan thankful for what they have. If you didn't see it you wouldn't believe how poor Texas played in the field. Missed bloops, flys, throws. Everything really. That said, Markakis went over the wall & got one. Davis with picks everywhere, Matty in the stands, Manny with double plays and cannons. Wonder if the Rangers were just rusty,? ...but don't care. The contrast just slammed home how good the Baltimore Birds are in the field.
The rest may have helped the mind & solidified the idea that this team belongs. They do btw. This team belongs. Yes, closing out close games is of mid level concern as is the bullpen over use (which may be addressed before end of month) but this team is legit.
Elite, yeah I used the E word, is what they are in two major categories: offense & defense. It's not football or that statement would be even more powerful. That said, the Orioles are not a fluke. Who knows what a sweep in Texas means for the future but for now Baltimore is part if baseballs best.
