Glen Burnie Man Faces Slew Of Charges, Including Attempted Murder
GLEN BURNIE (WJZ)—An Anne Arundel County man faces a slew of charges in connection to what police say was a targeted shooting in Glen Burnie last month.
On Sept. 24 around 1 a.m., police say 39-year-old Clayton Leonard Mooring Jr. shot a 21-year-old Millersville man at the Sunoco gas station in the 300-block of Hospital Drive.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle was leaving the parking lot when a second vehicle pulled alongside. At that time, Mooring got out of the driver's side and shot twice through the driver's side of the vehicle the victim was in, striking the victim once in the abdomen.
Mooring then entered back into his vehicle and fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The victim was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore via ambulance with serious injuries.
Mooring was located and arrested Wednesday in the area of Ingram Court in Glen Burnie.
He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, two counts of reckless endangerment, handgun on person and handgun in vehicle.
Police also recovered a stolen handgun out of Montgomery County, and subsequently charged Mooring with illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of firearms with a felony conviction, regulated stolen firearm and possession of a firearm after CDS conviction.
Police say the shooting was not a random act of violence and believe it was drug related.
Mooring is currently being held in the Anne Arundel County Detention Center without bail.
