Glen Burnie Home Catches Fire On Christmas Eve, Displacing Family
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) -- A Glen Burnie family has been displaced after a fire broke out in their home on Thursday morning.
Anne Arundel Fire spokesman Capt. Russ Davies said firefighters responded to a single-family home in the unit block of Marley Neck Road around 11:41 a.m.
The fire was burning on the exterior of the one-story home.
Davis said the fire was under control in 10 minutes. Luckily, the fire station was nearby and firefighters were familiar with the area.
"For them being on the road and knowing the area, the first dew area, they were able to get here quickly," fire Lt. Sheldon Neal said.
As WJZ spoke with the family, their stockings were still hung on the wall with care, visible from the outside due to the damage.
"Our 9-year-old came in and said, 'Mommy, Daddy, there's a fire! The house is on fire!" the homeowners recalled.
The parents and all three children were able to escape without injury. Their cat was also rescued.
While the presents under their tree are gone, they're grateful to have each other.
"This has been a rough year on us and this makes it worse, but it brings us together when we really needed it," Jeannine Hite said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
