Giants, Fans 'All In' For Muddy, Smash-Mouth Title Game
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- It all comes down to this.
The Giants and San Francisco 49ers have crossed paths seven times in the postseason, a playoff rivalry chock full of huge plays and crushing losses.
Expect more of the same Sunday. It's all on the line at Candlestick Park with the winner moving on to the Super Bowl. But the biggest player during the NFC Championship game just may end up being the weather.
"I anticipate that we'll have some precipitation, some weather," said 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. "And that will be a great thing for us."
The forecast calls for rain in the Bay Area throughout the weekend. Though the precipitation may taper off by game time Sunday night, Candlestick Park is notorious for its sloppy surface. Just ask former Niner and current Giants backup quarterback David Carr.
"Even when it's dry, it's wet," said Carr. "It's one of those deals where you just have to make sure you have the right cleats, make sure you're sure of your footing."
And it's not just New York's aerial attack that could be affected. Their lauded defensive line will surely have a rough go of it in the mud.
"It will slow the pass rush down," said 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman. "No question"
The Giants have practiced indoors all week, but not everyone is concerned about the forecast. In fact, they're standing behind their "All In" rallying cry.
"I'm fine throwing it in the rain," said Eli Manning.
"We play in muddy games, rainy games," said Giants safety Antrel Rolle. "I don't feel there are any advantages."
