George Washington Defeats Towson 73-67
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Dwayne Smith scored 18 points to lead George Washington to a 73-67 victory over Towson on Wednesday night, snapping the Colonials' four-game losing streak.
Joseph Katuka added 11 points to help George Washington (3-5) hold off Towson (2-5), which cut the lead to two points twice in the final 7 minutes.
Smith's layup stretched George Washington's advantage to 63-59 with 6:19 remaining, but Towson's Braxton Dupree responded with two free throws to bring the Tigers within 63-61 with 5:17 to play.
George Washington countered with consecutive 3-pointers from Nemanja Mikic and Smith for a 69-61 advantage with 2:33 remaining.
Tim Johnson added 10 points for the Colonials.
RaShawn Polk and Josh Brow scored 18 points each to lead Towson, which had 16 first-half turnovers and 23 for the game. Dupree finished with 17 points and Isaiah Philmore added 13 points.
