Gay Marriage Group Hires New Campaign Manager
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Josh Levin is the new campaign manager for Marylanders for Marriage Equality.
The group hoping to uphold a recently passed law that legalizes gay marriage announced Levin's appointment Wednesday.
Levin has worked as a campaign manager for several congressional candidates and as the Illinois state director for Americans Against Escalation in Iraq.
Opponents of the marriage law are collecting signatures to bring the measure to referendum on the November ballot.
Officials at Marylanders for Marriage Equality, a coalition of organizations that support same-sex marriage, expect the law will be challenged.
Gov. Martin O'Malley signed the legislation to allow same-sex couples to wed in March. It is scheduled to take effect in January 2013.
