Gas Prices Take A Dive
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Gas prices took another dive this week, dropping to as low as $3.17 a gallon.
Monique Griego speaks to AAA about what we can expect the next time we gas up.
Gas prices are causing some sticker shock.
"At first I thought it was an incorrect price," said Iesha Williams.
Williams had to do a double take before filling up at an Exxon station on York Road and Belvedere Avenue.
"Gas nowadays is high, so expensive. I mean you see $3.17 and it's out of this world," said Williams.
Within the past month, gas prices have dropped by almost 30 cents.
Right now, the national average is $3.40 a gallon. In Maryland, it's $3.32 a gallon. And while that's still almost 60 cents more than a year ago, drivers are enjoying the dip.
Ragina Averella from AAA Mid-Atlantic says the dip is typical for this time of year and could last a few months before rebounding in 2012.
"Absent any major economic events or geopolitical events, they will probably continue to decline. Many are saying that they'll get to that $3 per gallon range. Many people are saying that they're already there, but they're not," said Averella.
A few of the websites that track gas prices were reporting some places were at $3 or less than $3 a gallon. WJZ drove to some of those stations and the prices didn't match what was on the websites.
"They're not quite at $3 a gallon yet," Averella said. "We can only hope and pray for that."
Exxon had a few stations at $3.17. That's the lowest WJZ could find.
Drivers seem to be jumping on any opportunity to keep their tally down.
"This is just a little bonus, so take advantage while you can," said Kevin Mullinary, driver. "Happy Monday."
