Gas Prices Starting To Rise Again
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The price at the pump is on the way up again and AAA predicts that we've seen the last of the lower gas prices.
Pat Warren reports on the reasons why.
"They're up, they're down--I don't understand it," said Pat Robinson.
The average price for a gallon of regular in Maryland is now $3.38, six cents more than we paid last week. A month ago, Marylanders were paying $3.45 a gallon. A year ago, it was $3.60.
"I think it's outrageous," Robinson said. "I feel like I'm being taken advantage of as a consumer."
And that's a shared feeling.
"We have our own oil here. Drill right here! Why not? Why get it from overseas? Why do this?" said John Singer.
"We're seeing crude oil prices back on the rise again," said Christine Delise, AAA Mid-Atlantic.
AAA Mid-Atlantic expects prices to continue to rise through the summer.
"Come Labor Day though, we do expect to see prices decline as the busy summer driving season ends. Kids go back to school, parents go back to work, everyone's not driving as much and also refineries start switching to a more cost-effective winter blend," Delise said.
Monday's prices are a reminder to drivers that the cost of gas this season has been much higher.
"It was, and it was higher in the winter and spring as well, so for summertime, I'm pleased," said Scott Sherr.
"This is pretty low but I just take it as it comes. I have a job so I'm thankful for that," said Rosina Ciattei.
"I don't drive that much but we need to drive so we'll pay whatever it takes," said Bill Sawers.
The AAA reports reflect the prices paid by credit cards in more than 100,000 gas stations in the country.
Maryland is tied with AAA's national average at $3.38 a gallon. A month ago, Marylanders were paying 10 cents less than the national average.
