Md. Highway Reopens; Work On Gas Leak Continues
CLARKSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County fire officials say both lanes of Interstate 270 are back open after being shut down because of a gas main leak.
Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham says the highway re-opened around 10 p.m. on Monday. He says work on the leak was expected to continue through the night, but he did not expect any problems for drivers during Tuesday morning's commute.
Construction workers severed the 8-inch gas main on Clarksburg Road about 4:30 p.m. Monday. Both lanes of the interstate had to be closed and businesses on a commercial strip on Gateway Drive were evacuated.
