Future Of Last-Minute Gaming Bill Unclear
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The chairman of a House subcommittee that considers Maryland gambling legislation says it is unclear if a last-minute bill that would expand gambling in the state will get a vote.
Delegate Frank Turner, a Howard County Democrat, said Monday that he's going to do what's in "the best interest in the state," but would not say if he would recommend moving the bill forward.
The legislation, offered by the Senate on Saturday would add a sixth casino in Prince George's County, permit table games at all slots parlors and increase the number of slot machines allowed in the state from 15,000 to 16,000.
The bill is an alternative to a proposal offered earlier in the session that would have also increased the amount of revenue casino operators get to keep.
