Frederick To Add Red-Light Cameras
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The city of Frederick will soon add to its red-light camera program.
The Frederick News-Post reports police say a recently installed camera at South East Street and East South Street will begin generating $75 citations around July 10.
A second light will go up at Ice Street and West South Street within the next month, bringing the city's total number of monitored intersections to 11.
City police are responsible for selecting red-light camera locations based on citations, traffic and crash data.
Automated enforcement coordinator Wade Brown says police have seen evidence that cameras reduce citations over the long run and improve safety.
The city red-light camera program began a decade ago at five intersections. In the first year, the cameras generated more than 3,500 citations.
