Frederick Running Festival To Go On As Planned
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Organizers of the Frederick Running Festival say they expect the event to go on as planned in the wake of the deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon.
The festival is scheduled for May 4 and 5 at the Frederick Fairgrounds. It will include a half-marathon, a team relay and a children's race.
Organizers expect more than 6,000 runners to participate. Race director Rachel Ridgway tells The Frederick News-Post that registration numbers are similar to what they've been in previous years.
The only major policy change is that runners will be required to place their gear in clear plastic bags in order to check it. Rigdway says organizers had considered that change even before Monday's bombing in Boston.
Police say there have been no threats associated with the festival.
