Frederick Police Seek Stolen Fossil
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Police in Frederick are asking people to keep their eye peeled for a hot rock with a prehistoric pedigree.
It's a trilobite fossil, stolen Saturday from a display case at the downtown Earthly Elements rock shop.
Shop owner Richard Constant Bailey says the four-inch fossil, valued at nearly $490, is a collector's piece. He says it was found in the northern Sahara and is about 400 million years old.
Bailey says it's the best quality trilobite he's ever had in his store.
