Frederick Police Respond To Violent Crime Downtown
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick city police say they're beefing up patrols in a downtown neighborhood where a fatal shooting was followed by a large street fight.
Capt. Thomas Ledwell told The Frederick News-Post Tuesday that a number of uniformed and undercover officers have been reassigned to a new detail focusing on the areas around South and All Saints streets.
On Monday evening, shots were fired and one person was stabbed during a brawl in the middle of West South Street. A day earlier, an Urbana man was shot to death about a block away. Police have made no arrests in the slaying.
The executive director of the nearby Frederick Rescue Mission says drug dealing and violence are out of control in the area.
