Fatal House Fire Caused By Unattended Cooking

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say food left cooking on a stove caused a house fire that killed a Frederick woman.

Frederick County Fire Marshal Michael Dmuchowski says another occupant and a firefighter were hurt in the incident early Thursday morning on East South Street.

Authorities aren't identifying the woman who died. They say she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital after firefighters removed her from the building's second floor.

Dmuchowski says there were no smoke alarms in the home. He estimates the fire damage at $100,000.
