Frederick County Deputies Fatally Shoot Teen Suspect
MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says two deputies fatally shot a robbery suspect in Mount Airy after he pointed a shotgun at them.
Cpl. Jennifer Bailey says 19-year-old Daniel Vail was pronounced dead early Thursday morning in a bedroom of a Westwind Drive apartment.
She says Vail's mother was found in another bedroom. She was interviewed by investigators and released.
Bailey says Vail was a suspect in a home-invasion robbery in Howard County. Howard County authorities had asked Frederick County to serve a warrant at the Mount Airy address.
Bailey says both officers are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. They are Deputy First Class Charles Zang, a 15-year veteran, and Deputy First Class Kevin Riffle. Riffle has been with the agency for seven years.
