Frederick Arson Probe Expands

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Investigators in Frederick say they're trying to determine whether as many as nine fires are connected to a suspected arson.

Authorities told The Frederick News-Post on Monday that all the incidents were in the city's north end. They date back to a Dec. 27 house fire in the 1500-block of West Eighth Street.

That's the same block where another suspicious house fire occurred early Sunday morning.

Authorities suspect arson as the cause of a second house fire Sunday on nearby Young Place. That blaze started in a carport, like the December fire.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is assisting fire investigators and Frederick city police in the investigation.
