Fred Smoot Checks In From DC
Fred Smoot from CBS Sports Network joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Jason La Canfora to discuss the NFL. The Ravens will be playing the Titans (2-6) this Sunday, but the game the media is still talking about the Ravens loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The biggest reason is due to these two teams being one of the biggest rivals in the NFL. When Smoot played for the Redskins, the Cowboys were and still are their biggest rival. When asked how he and his team prepared for these types of games, he stated, "No matter what your year is like, when those games come up, you think about nothing but a win." It is hard when you are having a rough season, but when there is a rival game that is the most important game at that time.
ESPN reporter Britt McHenry tried stated there was some kind of wedge between the Redskins players and RGIII. She stated that he had started alienating himself from the locker room. The players were yelling while his interview was going on and RGIII and the media had to leave the locker room to finish interview. Smoot says, "RGIII, is he universally beloved? NO. But this was all, Totally blown out of proportion." He goes on to say as a previous football player himself, "They were being football players in the locker room. These players are behind RGIII."
There are many feelings that the NFL refs are overusing the yellow flags these days. When asked his feelings about all the penalties he states, "How would I do it now, is the question I ask myself. They don't let you hit in the NFL anymore." He discussed when the TV reporters go back and review after a penalty has been called, most of the time they can't determine if it is actually a penalty or not. Football is an extremely physical game and a lot of those penalties, unless it is a blatant intentional hit, need to be limited.
