Fourth Of July Weekend Marks 36th Annual Dundalk Heritage Fair
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ)—If you want to start your Fourth of July celebration early there's no better place than Dundalk. The heritage fair is already underway. As Ron Matz reports, it kicks off four days of festivities in one of Baltimore's oldest and proudest neighborhoods.
The Dundalk Fourth of July parade steps off Monday morning. Thousands will line the streets. But at Dundalk Heritage Park, the fair has already begun.
"This means a lot," said Joe Falbo, Dundalk Heritage Association president. "That's what got me up here back in the late 70s. Just wanted to come up and volunteer. I started hanging fence with the rest of the guys and ended up in the big seat. Don't ask me why."
The Guess Who is the music headliner this weekend.
They're "doing all their hits," Falbo said. "It should be a great, great show. We've been getting calls from out of state, from everywhere from people who want to see this show."
Eddie Money performs too. Heritage honcho Joe Faldo says it's a star spangled bargain.
"We have everything going on this weekend here in Dundalk [at] the 36th Annual Dundalk Heritage Fair," Faldo said. "We have the Mahoney Brothers tonight, tomorrow night we have The Guess Who, and Sunday night we have Eddie Money. All for the price of $5. Show me somewhere in this area where you can see a national act for $5."
A 1968 Cadillac convertible will be part of the Dundalk Fourth of July parade. And if you think you've seen the car before, you have. Featured in the movie "Wedding Crashers," it's owned by Dundalk's own Sam and Hazel Caravello.
"I've probably done a hundred car shows," said Sam Caravello. "It was seen and they wanted a car for the movie they were making in Maryland and Washington, D.C. They asked if we would be interested and they picked our car for the movie. It was pretty cool.
It's "just neat to look up on the big screen and know that's your car," Caravello continued.
"It's kind of breathtaking," said Hazel Caravello. "You just don't ever think you're going to be that famous. The car's famous, we're not. But it's pretty cool. It's very good conversation."
Music and money, a famous movie car and a whole lot more—it's happening this weekend.
"This neighborhood is famous for its backyard cookouts after the parade, family get-togethers. It's starting to turn into a tradition with our beer garden. High school reunions are taking place there," Falbo said.
