Fort Detrick In Md. Raises Security Status
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Army is announcing tightened security measures at Fort Detrick in Frederick amid news of Osama bin Laden's death.
Fort Detrick spokesman Chuck Gordon wouldn't give a specific reason for the added security Monday. He cites reports that military installations nationwide are on a heightened state of alert because of the events of Sunday evening.
Gordon says there is no specific threat to Fort Detrick or its Forest Glen annex in Silver Spring, which is also on heightened security status.
Gordon says visitors may have to undergo more frequent or more thorough vehicle searches. They also may have to show identification at the PX, gym or commissary.
Fort Detrick is home to the U.S. military's biological warfare defense research program.
