Former USNA Teacher Faces Assault Allegations
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A former teacher at the U.S. Naval Academy is facing allegations he sexually assaulted a student in 2011.
An academy spokesman says testimony ended Tuesday in a military court hearing. The teacher was not identified by the academy. The alleged incidents happened after two female students attended a traditional croquet match between the academy and neighboring St. John's College.
William Ferris, an attorney representing the teacher, said Wednesday that statements made by the two women to Navy investigators and at a hearing were not consistent. He contends none of the allegations happened.
Cmdr. William Marks, an academy spokesman, said Wednesday the case will be reviewed to decide whether it warrants a court martial.
The teacher, who is 43, faces charges of fraternization, aggravated sexual assault and conduct unbecoming an officer.
