Former United Way Worked Indicted For Wire Fraud
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— A federal grand jury has indicted a former United Way of Central Maryland employee for wire fraud in connection with a scheme to steal at least $400,788 in donations issued to the charitable organization.
Dorothy Shields Talbot, 48, of Baltimore, worked in the nonprofit organization's financial department from September 2001 to December 2010. She was responsible for depositing donations into a corporate operating bank account.
However, the two-count indictment alleges that from December 2004 to December 2010, Talbot allegedly withdrew more than$400,000 of the monies for her own personal benefit.
The indictment seeks forfeiture of $400,788 or more. Talbot faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
