Former Oriole Mike Bordick Joins Scott and Jeremy
MASN analyst and former Baltimore Oriole, Mike Bordick, joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the Orioles post season. Mike is a for baseball player and knows the stresses of the game. Scott asks Mike about his feelings as a former player, from a player standpoint how do these players handle the bigger stage. . "I think younger players feed off the older players. Nelson Cruz has made everyone relaxed. I think most players look to those guys."
When asked about how the Orioles will fair against the KC Royals Mike says "they have some scrappy offensive players, they have some hot bats, or they were hot. The Orioles are hoping to contain that."
Buck Showalter has trusted Ryan Flaherty and he made some key plays in Detroit. When talking about the young players on the team they also discussed Jonathan Schoop. Bordick explained "this is his first year under the spot light. He and Ryan Flaherty have teamed up with some amazing double plays. He came in and made an impression."
Home field advantage has been a debate and Jeremy and Scott discussed that with Mike about his feelings. "It matters when the crowd is going the way it is. I think in the post season if you can get that crowd behind you, it can cause mistakes on the opposing team. It will come down to who makes the mistakes."
Mike was pleased the Orioles have followed the advice of the scouters to get to where they have ultimately gotten. "It has really helped the Orioles and how they have transformed this team. " When giving his final advice on how the Orioles need to play to take the series, he states "control the game and trust the veteran players. If you can get Adam Jones going the Royals will struggle."
