Former No. 1 Overall Pick Jake Long Announces Retirement From NFL

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Former No. 1 overall pick in the NFL's 2008 Draft, OT Jake Long, announced his retirement from the NFL on Twitter.

"Although my heart and mind still want to play, my body is telling me something completely different," wrote Long. Long did not experience the highly productive career expected of him after the injuries piled up.

He went on to thank those who have helped him in his career thus far including the famous Dr. Andrews and Coach Carr.

Long finished his career with 104 games played over nine seasons. He started all 16 games in each of his first three seasons, but missed time in each of his last six due to injury. He played last year with the Minnesota Vikings, his fourth team in five seasons, but made it through only four games. A torn Achilles tendon sent him to injured reserve.
