Former Catonsville High Teacher Accused of Groping Student
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A former Catonsville High teacher faces several charges for allegedly groping a 16-year-old student when he was teaching at the school more than a decade ago, authorities said.
Nathan Lee Martin, 38, of Severna Park, turned himself into police on June 22 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree child abuse, fourth-degree sexual offense and sexual abuse of a minor, according to police. Last month, a Baltimore County grand jury indicted him.
On Dec. 12, 2003, Martin was supervising a basketball scrimmage between the boys' and girls' basketball teams, police said. Afterward, he allegedly approached the victim and invited her to his classroom. She followed but did not enter the room, the victim told investigators.
Later, while the two were walking down a stairwell, Martin allegedly groped the victim's chest and between her legs. The victim said Martin also tried to kiss her but she pushed him away.
A trial for Martin, who no longer works for the county school system, is set for Oct. 27. He is currently out of custody on $100,000 bail.
