Focus On NFL Concussions Brings Attention To Kids
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Attention on helmet hits and concussions in the NFL is having a trickle-down effect on high school and youth sports.
Pop Warner recently announced it will require a note from a doctor before letting a player with a head injury return to action, and the American Academy of Neurology recommended that an athletic trainer be present at all children's games and practices.
Still, the National Athletic Trainers' Association thinks more must be done and is hosting a "Youth Sports Safety Summit" on Tuesday.
Ohio State professor Dawn Comstock is presenting a study showing that high school boys and girls complain of different concussion symptoms. Comstock says she's been contacted by the NFL about tracking youth football injuries.
