Flood Warnings Issued For Md. Streams
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The National Weather Service warns that rain from Hurricane Irene will likely cause flooding in parts of southern and central Maryland and the Eastern Shore.
The weather service says the St. Mary's River near Great Mills was rising at more than a foot per hour Saturday night after up to seven inches of rain in parts of St. Mary's and Calvert counties.
The river was at 9.4 feet at 8:15 p.m. The agency says the record high there was just over 13.3 feet on Aug. 20, 1969.
Flood warnings are also out for Seneca Creek near Dawsonville in Montgomery County, and for small streams on the lower Eastern Shore and northern Accomack County, Va.
Flash flooding has closed roads in Baltimore and Anne Arundel, St. Mary's and Prince George's counties.
