First Lady's Appearance At Maryland Events To Raise $1M For Obama Campaign
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- First Lady Michelle Obama brings her campaign star quality to Baltimore and thousands turn out to catch a glimpse.
Meghan McCorkell has more on her message.
It was a packed house as the First Lady took the stage at Morgan State University, just one of her campaign stops on Friday.
Plastered all over Twitter-- pictures of Michelle Obama as she greets the crowd at Morgan State University.
On cell phone video of the event, the First Lady talks passionately about her husband.
"In Barack, I found a real connection because in his life I saw so much of my own," Michelle Obama said to the audience.
Two thousand people gathered to hear Michelle Obama speak.
Morgan State student and cancer survivor Charnelle Bacon introduced the First Lady, speaking out about how the president's healthcare policy has touched her.
"I had a pre-existing case of a chronic condition and I'm still able to receive healthcare. It's just amazing," Bacon said.
Michelle Obama's message was far-reaching.
"She was speaking to the professors, to the nursing students, to the ones that were sick. Excellent," Danita Tolson, who heard the speech, said.
A key topic that drew applause-- making college more affordable.
"In particular, financial aid, which is key to my success here at Morgan State University," Donald Schuler, a student at Morgan State University, said.
"Having Michelle Obama here is actually a dream," Jared Manns, a Morgan State student, said.
After her appearance here at Morgan State, the First Lady moved on to another fundraiser at a private home in Baltimore County.
Her main goal was getting supporters ready for November.
"We feel fired up and ready to go."
Election day is just over six weeks away.
The First Lady's appearances in Maryland are expected to raise a million dollars for her husband's campaign.
The president also hit the campaign trail on Friday with appearances in Virginia.
