Welding Sparks Fire At Auto Body Shop Fire In Bel Air
BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) -- A fire broke out at an auto body shop in Bel Air Thursday afternoon.
According to Harford County officials, the fire is at Weavers Autobody -- 729 Bel Air Road -- and broke out around 12:30 p.m.
Firefighters are on the scene of the blaze. Smoke could be seen billowing from the building.
WJZ's Max McGee spoke to Tommy Weaver who owns the body shop.
Weaver said everyone made it out safe.
According to the owner, the first started as a mechanic was welding on a pickup truck. The sparks lit a fire.
In 41 years, Weaver said he's never seen anything like this happen.
He's grateful everybody is just safe.
Officials estimate a combined $1 million for structure and content. It took officials roughly 45 minutes to contain the fire.
Tollgate Road between Bel Air Road and Boulton Street and Bel Air Road between Tollgate Road and Lake Fanny Hill were both closed during the incident.
