Fire Marshal Orders Apartments Over Nightclub Vacated
FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- The Office of the State Fire Marshal has ordered apartments over a Frostburg nightclub vacated because of fire code violations.
The fire marshal on Friday ordered all occupants of the Diamond Apartments to be out by 4 p.m. Monday. Officials say there are 19 residents in 16 apartments.
Authorities also ordered the nightclub under the apartments, Diamond's Lounge, be closed.
State and city officials say they found code violations during an inspection on Thursday. Authorities say violations included a non-compliant and antiquated fire alarm system; padlocked doors; no approved means of exit from the third floor; and blocked exits in the nightclub.
Representatives with the Department of Social Services will be available at 9 a.m. Monday at the Frostburg Community Center to help displaced residents.
