Festival of Trees Begins In Timonium
TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) ―If you're looking for a Christmas tree and a place to take the family, head on over to the state fairgrounds in Timonium. The Festival of Trees is a benefit for Kennedy Krieger Institute.
It started Friday, and as Ron Matz reports, there are huge crowds on the festival's first day.
Take a step into Santa's theme park, join the crowds and take it all in. This is the amazing Festival of Trees.
"This is our second year here, and it's always been really fun to come and see all the trees and have a really nice time with the family," said 11-year-old Brooke.
And families are everywhere on the festival's first day.
"We have an enormous turnout, and we are very excited. It really shows that people want to give to Kennedy Krieger Institute and want to spend the day with their family doing something really fun," said Lainy Lebow-Sachs, of Kennedy Krieger.
One of the trees featured is the Sabatinos' tree, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."
"Spaghetti and Meatballs is one of our top sellers of course at Sabatinos, so we came up with the idea of the pot spilling out with meatballs," said Phillip Culotta, general manager of Sabatinos. " The whole festival is a great event. We come every year with the family. You can see there are tons of people here, and it's a lot of fun. It's a great family event."
More than 40,000 people are expected at the festival this weekend.
"The festival is absolutely wonderful. The trees are fantastic. It's beautiful out here," said festival goer Ruth Wilsynkski of Rosedale.
The Festival of Trees lasts until 9 p.m. on Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday. WJZ is a proud sponsor of the Festival of Trees as part of our continuing community committment.
