FEMA Worker Charged With Embezzlement From Agency
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say an employee with the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been charged with embezzling more than $149,000 from the agency.
Sheila Ann Howard, 55, of Capitol Heights was charged in a criminal complaint filed Thursday and unsealed Friday, when she was arrested. Howard was released under supervision.
According to the complaint, Howard, who has worked at FEMA since 1990, was most recently responsible for processing payment through a payroll system. The complaint says she processed 26 fraudulent payments worth more than $149,000 and deposited them to bank accounts she controlled.
If convicted, Howard could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison.
