FEMA Employee Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- An employee with the Federal Emergency Management Agency has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $143,000 from the agency.
Sheila Ann Howard, 56, of Capitol Heights entered the plea Tuesday. She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison at sentencing Feb. 1.
According to her plea agreement, Howard processed payments for FEMA, such as cash awards and bonuses. Prosecutors say Howard processed 28 fraudulent payments in the names of 18 former FEMA employees, and one current employee.
