Feds Seek Delay Of Juvenile's Terrorism Trial
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Prosecutors are asking a judge to delay the trial of a juvenile accused in a terrorism plot due to the complexity of the case.
A motion filed Thursday in federal court in Philadelphia says the government needs more time to prepare for the trial of Mohammad Hassan Khalid.
Khalid was an honors student from suburban Baltimore when he was charged with helping the American terrorist dubbed "Jihad Jane" raise money and recruits for a Muslim holy war. He pleaded not guilty on Oct. 24.
Under the speedy trial law, Khalid is entitled to a trial within 70 days of that first court appearance. The current trial date is Dec. 13.
Prosecutors asked for a spring trial. Khalid's lawyer did not oppose the motion.
